NIC GROUP - SUSTAINABILITY
We are moving forward
Sustainability is and has always been at the heart of our business here at Nic. We are striving to do our best for our planet and are highly committed to contributing to solving the global environmental challenges.
UN Sustainable Development Goal 12 is key to Nic’s sustainability work.
We need to ensure we have the right decision tree in place to allow us to contribute to the UN goal, whether that be our selection of raw materials used in our production, choosing recyclable packaging solutions, reducing the climate footprint of our products and developing products for a healthy lifestyle – all contribute to this goal. We are consistently challenging our suppliers to ensure that we are selecting the best sustainable options available. We have good supplier relationships where we can work in tandem to ensure that we launch a product that has been through our internal sustainability review and policies.
We use renewable energy
By March 2022 our UK Nic sites will be from a 100% renewable source of electrical energy. We are in the process of reviewing the rest of the Nic group and will strive to achieve the same aspirations.
Our energy consumption is reducing through best practise, and we are in the process of implementing a growing number of energy efficient projects across our business.
Our energy consumption is reducing through best practise, and we are in the process of implementing a growing number of energy efficient projects across our business.
2025 Target:
- Reduce our energy usage by 30% by 2025.
- To source our energy from a 100% renewable source.
We are not travelling as much
We are reducing our environmental impact by travelling less miles in turn reducing our CO2 emissions. We have done this through more effective regional organisation and fleet management selection thereby optimising backhauling and route planning.Â
We are reviewing our transport fleet system to ensure that we utilise our loads and consolidate to the best of our ability. We have a responsibility to manage our fleet of vehicles to ensure we are reducing CO2 emissions.

Target:
- Reduce our CO2 emissions by travelling less miles.
- We are inputting an organised fleet system to utilise routes and backhauling opportunities.
We utilise our virtual platform
We are avoiding travelling where possible and since the pandemic we have changed our ways of working as many businesses have. We have a strong virtual platform which we are developing and utilising, this is our first choice for meetings. By avoiding the travelling we are reducing our CO2 emissions but for those that do need to travel we ensure we take the right decisions.
Target:
- Reduce our travelling and in turn our CO2 emissions.
Our company cars are moving towards electric/hybrid cars
We are committed to reducing our CO2 emissions by driving less miles and in turn reducing our environmental impact on our planet. We avoid unnecessary travel by car using public transport where possible. Our company vehicles are selected by having the lowest CO2 emissions and we select cars firstly as battery electric vehicles and then depending on the country’s infrastructure if required a hybrid model.
Target:
- To ensure that our company cars are hybrid or battery electric vehicles in line with the country’s infrastructure.
We are always striving to be ahead with innovation and select appropriate packaging
We ensure that our packaging is selected based on life cycle inventory (LCI) and this assessment helps guide our packaging choices and in turn reducing the environmental impact and CO2 footprint. Our packaging guidelines are based on the 5R’s: rethink, reduce, replace, recycle and reuse. We aspire to stay ahead with innovation and are constantly looking to improve and challenge the packaging we are using and reducing its use where appropriate.
2025 Target:
- 100% of packaging by 2025 are to be reusable or recyclable.
- 75% of packaging by 2025 to be based on recycled or renewable materials.
- 50% of plastic packaging to be based on recycled or renewable materials.
